Back Story

In early October 2009, I was watching AMV Hell 4: The Motion Picture along with a friend via instant message. When we both got to the scene of Rushuna spinning around loading bullets from her cleavage to "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Dead or Alive, we were both a bit amused and wondering what the series was. By the time the whole AMV Hell was over though, I had forgotten. MY friend hadn’t though, and he eventually IMed me the name of the series, and a few days later he sent me a link to where I could watch the series online. I was immediately won over with Rushuna. The series itself has a very weak plot, but it’s fun and the characters are likeable. And Rushuna was just too cute, had a figure that is similar to mine, and her outfit was also super cute. Within a couple episodes, I knew I had to cosplay her, and come Katsucon 16, I had her complete.

About this Costume

I simply adore cosplaying Rushuna. I love the way the costume looks, the colors are bright, and the hat is adorable. This is the first costume that I ever declared as "my favorite." The gloves are made from a non-stretch fabric, and they were the pain of my exsistance while working on this costume. The first one took FOREVER! Because they don’t stretch, they are a little uncomfortable, but this costume in general is super comfy, and my hands tend to get used to the gloves after awhile. The open fingers are wonderful too! I can actually go about life as normal in this costume without having to constantly take them on and off.

One part of this costume that greatly amuses me is that I made custom panties to go with it. The little bow on the side of her dress isn’t attached to the dress, but rather on the characters panties, so I went ahead and made them. It works out well to with such a high slit: I don’t worry about panty shots as they’re part of the costume!

With the literal fanny pack and the gun holster, this costume has plenty of built in storage, and I love it that. I don’t have to worry about anyone holding things or trying to hide items during photos. I could keep going on about this costume, as I really do love it. My only gripe is the straw hat tangles my wig something fierce. I’ve still not figured out a solution to this, so feel free to suggest one if you think you might have solved it!

Total Investment

Not a whole lot of cash spect on this costume. The boots under the boot covers I purchased for Cammy, and the fabric was mostly on sale. All the magenta is Joann’s Casa Crepe Satin, the light pink is a various silky fabric, and the blue is custom dyed Twill. The silver is fabric costume vinyl, with marine vinyl for the dark caps on the gloves. The most expensive fabric was the apholstery "leather" I purchased to make the belt and gun holster. But needing less than 1/4 of a yard of it helped with the $30/yard price tag. The wig was purchased for Cosworx, and the hat was found on eBay. I don’t remember the exact total, but I believe this costume cost me less than $120, including the wig.

I spent nearly 7 hours working on just the gloves. Not only were they my first pair of homemade gloves, but I was using non-stretch fabric. Everything else (minus the dying of the fabric) took however long it takes to watch all of Grenadier.
